If we lost CF, who would we want?

  • Its always good to have a back-up plan. Who is on our list?

  • Saban, IMO.

  • I hear Saban is likely to leave Alabama. You know, someday.

Franklin's not going anywhere this year, and we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

  • In all seriousness, WILLIE TAGGERT! Western Kentucky's head coach. He's 35, comes from the Jim Harbaugh coaching family, can recruit, and he's a winner.

Willie Taggart, Mark Hudspeth (Louisiana-Lafayette and former North Alabama HC), or Mike McIntyre (San Jose St) would all be excellent choices. But I agree that it's going to take a helluva offer to pry CJF out of Nashville.

  • Let's redirect this a little bit because I'm sure no one really wants hypothesize on a life without CJF just yet. So let me ask you this:

Who do you hope UT hires? Who is a realistic hire that would do nothing to slow the VU rise?

  • Here are some guys I wouldn't mind:
    (1) Bobby Petrino -- just don't believe he can keep it together long enough at UT to turn them around. Keeping UT's coaching situation unstable is valuable on its own even though Petrino is a very solid head coach when not imploding or job hunting.
    (2) David Cutcliffe -- he would provide stability in all liklihood, but relatively little risk of really transforming UT into a destination school. Doesn't seem to be an outstanding recruiter, won't impede Franklin there.
    (3) Anybody who publically goes after the Auburn or Arkansas job, or any other jobs, first.

Not sure. Someone who will hopefully be a poor recruiter. Maybe someone like Kirby Smart who ends up being a huge bust.

  • Agree on the David Cutcliffe front. I want them to hire someone older who isn't going to bring the "youthful exuberance" to recruiting that we've seen CJF display.

Not sure I agree on Petrino though. Though he may be morally bankrupt, he's proven himself to be able to win with less talent than UT has on its roster right now. I think he would unfortunately be a really great hire for them and terrible for us.

  • UT will be a young man's job. No chance they go after DC again.

  • I wonder how Charlie Strong would do there. South Carolina seemed to do better once he left and their recruiting didn't fall off.

Honestly, I don't think their fans are going about this the right way. They want a splash hire...they're wanting a big name regardless if he can coach or not. I'm not so sure Gruden would be a top notch collegiate head coach. It's different than the NFL.

    2) Cutcliffe would def be a favorable matchup from a recruiting perspective. Franklin's enthusiasm and style would be able to steal a couple of elite level guys out of UT's hands every year if he was battling Cutcliffe.

1.) i think Petrino is going to be extremely successful wherever he goes. From a recruiting perspective though, that's not where he's made his money. He's never brought in high profile recruiting classes but he is a good evaluator and he's a hell of a coach.
