Coaching Rumors

  • Anyone else hearing anything on the James Franklin - Arkansas rumors? Barton, what are you hearing?

  • You know that for a fact? Just worried when I hear rumors that Arkansas is set to announce this weekend that they've hired Franklin. Although I guess I should get used to hearing his name thrown around now given our recent success.

    Get used to this every year. It will take quite a number of seasons for other programs to be convinced that CJF actually intends to stay at VU. Even if CJF does field offers, it may be for negotiating for more of what he wants at Vanderbilt in terms of facilities and for his staff. Don't be concerned unless there is something of more substance than that he has been contacted. He will be contacted by multiple programs each year... it's a confirmation that people see Vanderbilt (accurately) as moving in the right direction. Anchor Down! Go Dores!

    I would have to agree... i don't see Franklin leaving for anyone or anything except for what might be his dream job... which at this point, only he knows what that is. he has proven he sticks to principles and telling recruits to come here to make their own legacy as he is doing would be hipocrasy for him to leave. I just don't see that happening. Turning Vanderbilt into winners just proves how great of a coach he is. Any joe can win at an established program.

  • Here was a post I read on Hogville, seems everyone has a "source" these days.

    Franklin has been formally courted by an SEC school. I was in touch with an old and very wealthy friend from Nashville that I used to partner with in the music industry. He runs with a several major Vandy supporters and was told that it's "all hands on deck" to try to keep Franklin in place because he has a very lucrative offer on the table.

    He told me that everybody close to the situation is saying it's Arkansas.

    He asked me why the news didn't enthuse me. I told him that I just didn't know enough of Franklin to be able to judge. I feel as though he has not sustained enough success to be judged.

    EDIT: He is assuming it's Arkansas since we've had the jump on other schools. May very well be Kentucky, or Auburn.

    I've been lurking on the Tennessee (spit) site most of the day. They believe Gruden is theirs.

    On Arkansas' site... well... this time last week it was down to Gary Patterson and Mike Gundy. Then, all of a sudden, Gruden states his interest in the job via a third party. Tennessee states we've offered Gruden, he said "no", and now he's theirs to lose. I call BS on the Gruden talk. Nobody knows what's going on. Arkansas was supposed to name a coach either this weekend or early next week. I don't know if that's true or not.

    Lastly, we have gone after Franklin. I doubt that. If we go after Franklin then that means we've struck out on about four or five other coaches. It just sucks right now because everyone is an "insider." I want this search over ASAP.

    My favorite is Patterson.

  • Great. Thanks for the insight. I think Patterson is a great coach and would be a slam dunk hire for you all. Also b/c that would mean James Franklin stays here. I agree with you, I just want it all to be over.

  • I don't see Patterson leaving TCU. Now that they're in the Big XII, he's got a great gig going on. I mean he could leave but I just don't see it.

    Yeah I saw that and them no less than a few minutes later another thread popped up in hogville, stating that his "source" said a presser was scheduled on Saturday to ultimately fire JLS and a preser on Sunday to announce the hiring of CJF. I call BS and Pete Rousell usually knjws his stuff.
