Burse comes up big

    Alpharetta WR Carlos Burse corralled six catches for 86 yards in a big 35-32 win over Johns Creek on Friday night. After the game he talked about his commitment to Vanderbilt.

  • Thanks for the interview Barton. Burse seems like a great fit for Vanderbilt. He's exactly the type of student-athlete I'm excited for CJF and staff to recruit and for our fans to cheer for when he's playing for the dores. Looking at stats, it looks like burse's high school team has a 5'9" jr WR that has put up big numbers as well. Is he viewed as much of a D-1 prospect? How about teammate Rodney Morris? There were rumors that he may have some major conference potential (possibly some type of "package deal" with Burse?). Hope Mr. Burse enjoyed watching the Vanderbilt over ole miss win. He's cut from the same mold as Matthews and Boyd & has a bright future with the commodores!

    The junior is a good player, Daniel Clements. Not sure i see him as an SEC type target at this point but could develop into that. Really good route-runner and body control. Very polished for a young guy.

    Rodney Morris definitely has the frame of a major college player but he had a drop or two on Friday night and I don't know that he has that elite burst to create separation. I could see him getting some serious offers late in the process though because of his body.

    As for Burse. He had a good night. Great looking kid on the hoof. Has the same kind of physical presence of Boyd and Matthews. Probably even more developed coming out of high school. He's a possession guy with great hands and had 1 spectacular catch on the night on a post ball that he caught over his shoulder with a defender draped on him. He also takes more than one defender to bring him down usually. Just a strong chain-moving type.

    Brings a very similar skill set to that of Deandre Woods.

    However, if you listen to him in the interview, he sounds less than 100 percent committed. Could be a guy to keep an eye on into December and January.

  • yeah, going to have to disagree here barton. He sounded like a fairly bright 17/18 year old kid and he did waver a bit on the answer, but it wasn't really like he said "I'm looking around at other schools" The minute they sign that LOI, they are practically school property...my take is that alot of them like to keep the recruiting process alive if not for the attention and notoriety/anxiety it produces around the nation and for coaches. Who knows, maybe he got the hard sell and just needs to be up at VU this weekend to assure himself of the choice. I do agree however...it was a bit odd that he thought Vandy was "improving" when this is probably one of the best season's we've had in 30 years.

    Fair enough. Like I said, I don't want to overplay things. I don't think he's some "soft verbal" all of the sudden, I just was kind of surprised by the way he answered but I'm ok with your description.

  • Seems to me that he's just apathetic about recruiting/ his recruitment.

  • I am going to agree with Barton here. CJF likes to use the word "married" when he talks about a commitment. I think it is more like engaged. Either way, if you are married, engaged, or even seriously dating a woman and you are asked "Are you still firmly committed to "girl X" then you answer is a enthusiasic yes or you are having some doubts. Let your wife or girlfrend be in ear shot when you are asked about her and answer the question like he did and see how that works out for you.

    When asked about other visits (insert dating other girls) he did not say he was not going to take other visits. Sounds to me he is hearing from someone he thinks he might want to have a date with.
