Vandy All-American Bowl primer

There are more Vanderbilt commits than ever before playing in post-season all-star and All-American Bowls. We give you everything you need to keep up with the events.

Tre Bell has a great opportunity to raise his stock this week.

Chesapeake Bowl

Saturday, Dec. 29 (No live TV)

Commitments: CB Tre Bell, LB Oren Burks

Top Targets: None

Notes: While the numbers are thin for Vanderbilt heading down the homestretch, this is the type of game that could help a player or two emerge on the radar for the Commodores, particularly as they look to add more running backs and safeties to their board as legitimate targets. This is also a great opportunity for Tre Bell to standout in an all-star setting after some mediocre performances over the summer. It could also be the coming out party nationally for Burks.

Offense-Defense All-American Bowl

Sunday, Dec. 30, Houston, Texas
Comcast SportsNet, 7:00 pm CT

Commitments: DT Jay Woods, LB Nigel Bowden, TE Mack Weaver, WR Carlos Burse

Top targets: TE Mitch Parsons

Notes: Running back Kaleb Blanchard is a guy that Vanderbilt is monitoring as a target down the stretch and Mitch Parsons has emerged as a major target at tight end…This will be a game that should be a great opportunity for us to get a look at what Mack Weaver can do against elite competition. It will also be an opportunity to see Nigel Bowden in a competitive setting. Since standing out last winter at the Rising Seniors Bowl, Bowden has gone largely unevaluated by the recruiting community…A couple of players that Vanderbilt was formerly involved with, Mark Dodson and Dominic Walker, are also competing in this event.

Georgia Rising Seniors Bowl

Monday, Dec. 31, Atlanta, Ga.
CSS 12:00 pm CT

Targets: S Bryce Lewis, DE Bryson Allen-Williams, S Cortez McDowell, OL/DL Kendall Baker, TE Milan Richard, RB Myles Autry, S Nick Ruffin, CB Chris Murphy, RB Treyvon Paulk, RB Nicholas Chubb, WR/ATH Terry Googer

Notes: This is an absolutely loaded event that is a great showcase for the next crop of elite recruits in the state of Georgia. While Vanderbilt has a number of targets already playing in the game, several more participants will inevitably emerge as targets after the week of competition.

Under Armour All-America game

Friday, Jan. 4, St. Petersburg, Fla.
ESPN, 4:00 p.m. CT

Commitments: None

Top targets: S Leon McQuay III

Notes: All eyes are on McQuay and his announcement at the game. It may well be the biggest announcement in Vanderbilt history if things go as Commodore coaches hope. Aside from McQuay, Vandy doesn’t have any other prospects in the game that they have been actively involved with lately but the loaded game is one of the premier events of the year.

Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl

Friday, Jan. 4, Carson, Calif.
NFL Network, 8:00 p.m. CT

Commitments: WR Latevius Rayford. OT Sean Dowling

Top targets: LB Zach Cunningham

Notes: This should be a great setting to get an up close and personal look at Vanderbilt’s newest commit in Sean Dowling. It will also be a chance for Latevius Rayford to shine. Playing with a limited quarterback at Memphis Central, the ultra-athletic Rayford can turn some heads this week against elite competition...We’ll be keeping a close eye on Zach Cunningham as he continues his rapid ascent on the national recruiting scene. Vandy looks like it has as good of a shot as anyone with Cunningham…Two national prospects that we will be keeping tabs on fom Vandy’s perspective are Wisconsin DE commit Chikwe Obasih and newly uncommitted running back Kailo Moore. Both are likely long shots for Vanderbilt but there has been some communication between the parties.

Semper Fi Full Roster

U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Saturday, Jan. 5, San Antonio, Texas
NBC, 12:00 p.m. CT

Commitments: QB Johnathan McCrary

Top targets: CB Jalen Ramsey

Notes: Johnathan McCrary’s performance will be in the spotlight during the Army week. The Georgia native has been a feather in the cap of the Vandy 2013 commitment list but some have questioned how college ready he is. The Army game will be a great opportunity for McCrary to silence any doubters…Jalen Ramsey remains committed to USC but Vanderbilt has quietly hung around in his recruitment. Can the Commodores make up ground heading into January or will Ramsey’s time spent with the numerous other USC commits during the week of practice firm up his pledge?
