National Signing Day falls on Wednesday Feb. 6 this year but the decision day for three-star running back Matt Dayes will come exactly one week earlier. On Wednesday morning, Dayes plans to make his decision as to where he’ll continue his football career.
Currently the Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay standout has no plans for a public ceremony, press conference or hat display. He’ll make his decision and inform the appropriate parties and only two schools are still under consideration: Vanderbilt and NC State.
Dayes committed to NC State all the way back in June but after a coaching change, he backed off that pledge. Since then, he has added offers from the likes of Miami, South Florida, Kentucky, and many more. Arkansas has shown increased attention as well. After Wednesday though, Dayes plans to shut down his recruitment.
This fall, Dayes took in an official visit to NC State back in October. Last weekend, Vanderbilt hosted him in Nashville.
After missing much of his junior year due to injury, Dayes had a huge senior year to spark a significant boost. That year included just under 1,800 yards of rushing in Florida’s biggest classification. He also helped lead his team to an 8A State Championship game appearance where he rushed for four touchdowns and 170 yards.
Currently, Dayes is rated by 247Sports as the No. 51 running back in the country and the No. 108 player in the state of Florida.
