Murphy lands Vandy offer

After Chris Murphy, a 2014 cornerback at Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison, camped at Vanderbilt earlier this month, the feedback from the Commodores was positive.

"The coaches told me they loved me," Murphy said. "They said I did very well, and right after the camp they told me I was an offer guy for them."

That offer finally arrived Monday.

"I was trying not to get frustrated waiting," Murphy said. "But in the back of my mind it was like, 'Why haven't they called me? I knew it was going to come eventually. It's an SEC offer, so it's really nice to get my first one. Then, it's also one of the best schools in the nation. If i decided to go there, it would be a great education to set me up for the future."

For the 5-feet-10, 178-pound Murphy, this is offer No. 2. North Carolina pulled the trigger two weeks ago.

"It feels great, like things are finally coming together for me," Murphy said. "Some of the schools are starting to realize how good I am and are taking notice."

Can Vanderbilt be a factor?

"Most definitely," Murphy said. "I really like Vanderbilt. It's a great school in a great city. And the coaching staff is really cool."
